  3. Hello Yusuf, I believe God is using you, at a time when each person in the world desperately needs look beyond his or her own immediate surroundings toward different cultures and religions. The West, in particular, needs to overcome its own irrationality and fear of Islam. Perhaps God is using you toward this end. It is a shame that Islam itself demonstrates its own irrationality and fear toward the Baha'i religion, a faith that only seeks a peaceful world under one God; sentiments we all share. Perhaps you could speak out about this unfairness also and demonstrate that you too can look beyond your own circumstances.

  5. You are SO deep! You remind me of a spinning elevator. One door leads to Motley Crue and the other to the audience. Like one is completely self absorbed and the other is a confused mixture of "this is what you look like when I look into at you" you are utterly boring..." and "did I do it rite?" It's like Bonnie Tyler doing Motley for a day and Motley doing Tyler. JJ on the stage door meant Janis Joplin. It's a poem unwritten. You are a very outstanding poet...wonderfully read...an enjoyable tea. Thanks for sharing

  7. Hi Yusuf: I got to using the U-tube thing a bit lately. Decided to try and find some video of you as Cat Stevens and spent many hours happily listening and watching you play your 70's songs. Eventually of course I came to your newee material. The songs from Another Cup and Roaddinger. Had to go and buy those CD's and my wife and have been listening to them ever day for the last month. Just beautiful music. I am as happy now as I was back in the 70's crusing around around in a van with a few friends listening to Tea For the Tillerman. So glad your making music again. Your right. One can argue philosophy all night but its hard to argue a good song. Much love to you and yours...................Tom

  8. Dear Yusuf, Thank you for giving the world such rich music. Your talent is unique. When I was learning to play the guitar the two books I treasured most were one song book by Gordon Lightfoot, and the other was your Anthology song book. I can still play some of your songs by heart. My favorite in that book is "Morning has Broken" and I especially like the sound when the first minor chord is used (Aminor, if in key of G). Very beautiful. I wish pop radio would play more of your songs more often. I am 58. Congrats on becoming a Granddad! I used to try to write some songs, but only play them for myself or family, but it is fun. Good luck with your new albums! Tom Berson

Many people talk the talk (about the kindness in their respective faiths ),but only a few walk, and you are one of those few Sir Yusuf..May God protect you and your family( blood related ,music related, charities related, education related and faith related ones ) from evil and jealous eyes. May you long live Sir Yusuf. You work so heard to make this world a better place for the children of this world.May we all do the same,so the children of this world inherit more love ,less hatred and less self annihilation from wars. Even the songs that you feel today are unacceptabe are so, so, beautiful - each and every one. They reflect the progression of your life's journey. P.S. Love your new music too. Can't keep a good man down - try as you might! The music is in your heart and soul. So glad you finally made peace with your past. It was too sad to think of you denying yourself that way...not recognizing what an amazing contribution you have made to the world. 11. I watched Yusuf on the Chris Isakk's (sp?) show this morning. What a great joy this was! Yusuf discuseed many aspects of his life, fascinating! He spoke about his desire to seek a higher understaning of himself & our world. He spoke too about his incident when he was refused entrance into the US. He was gracious about this, I hope that others will be too. He explained that the G-Men were apologetic to him at the time and could not understand themselveve why he was denied entrance. As an America, I extend my apologies to Yusuf for this. I thank him for refusing to exploit this most embaassing (for the US) event!

  13. I think that "Roadsinger" belongs to the artists best albums. I do especially like "The Rain", "All Kinds of Roses" ( which opens my heart, really... it may be an illusion but me - as a christian - i have a very strong feel that Yusuf is singing about the same "only one god" in his heart that i believe in - in spite of the different confessions ! ), "World o'Darkness" ( which took me back to "O' caritas" - check out listening to those in one sucession ) and "be what you must" All in all this album is making me very happy... thank you, Yusuf !

  17. Here is a reworking I did of Father and Son. I call it Father and Son – Thirty Years On. It sums up how happy I felt upon Yusuf’s return to the world of popular music. I hope you like it. Father: It’s now time to make a change, Not relax or take it easy. You're grown up, that's so good, But there’s still so much to do. You’ve a wife, and a child, You settled down, and you married. I am gone, though I’m gone, I am happy. I can now recall a time, and admit it wasn’t easy, To be calm in the turmoil we call youth. But I have travelled, journeyed on, To a time, a place we all can reach. Where our yesterdays and morrows are at peace with today. Son: You don’t need to explain; though you’ve gone we are now closer. Though the story’s the same, we have changed. We were so caught up in talk it was impossible to listen. It took me time, now I know I don’t have to go away. I don’t have to go. Father: It’s now time to make change, Get right on, embrace it. You're grown up, that's so good, But there’s still so much you can do. You’ve a wife, and a child, You settled down, you married. I am gone, I am gone, but I’m happy. Son: No more times, wasted t

  20. I admire your steadfastness and patience in going through all the difficulties and slander created by a few (esp the international media) since becoming a muslim. What is important is what ALLAH thinks of us and not the people since it is to him alone that we are returning to give our accounts. May ALLAH make you steadfast as "He is always with the righteous and steadfast people". Anyway this is part and parcel of the journey towards the straight path as has been endured by the people before us. You can be sure that there are only "a few"(as in history) that do not want to see the light of truth prevail on this earth but ALLAH says "they plan but I plan better". Please also continue with your dakwah through your talks and educational activities, which i had the privilege to attend and has enlighten many of us. Many people are still waiting for the message of peace and success of this world and life hereafter. Peace on to you

  22. Thank you for making the decision to come back to the fans who loved you and your musical message in the '70s, the days of our youth and naivety. As a college student in '71, I "found" your music and found an expression of feelings that I had never known before that. Your song, "Father & Son", as for so many others, helped me through the difficult early death of my father, at 56. Here I am, at 57, still listening to Stevens' music and message, while also finding new meaning and joy in Yusuf's music and message. Peace to you and your family!

  31. Yusef Islam is perhaps the most gifted and spiritual singer/song writer of our time. I am reminded of this each and everytime I turn on my IPOD and listen to Peacce Train, Wild world, Shamsia or the road singer or what appear to be another 100 songs. I sure hope he continues to produce albums one after another so that we can all rejoice. I just caught a re-run of the Chris Isak show where he was a special guest and was floored. I could have watched him talk for another 10 hours. Does anyone know of a good biography I can read of Yusef Islam?

It certainly brought a lot of spiritual backup to lots of youths at the time and walking away from the music world deprived them of this. Music has indeed a spiritual dimension that reaches out to the whole world no matter what their religion is and you did so well in terms of humanitarian work as a singer and composer, I always felt so sorry that you left us. If the showbiz world got so much on your nerves, you could just have got away from it and come back once in a while with a few songs then the human kind might have felt better... Music was certainly your best vehicle as a universal prophet and you helped people listening to the wind of their soul... Too bad you left us!

Your music has inspired me for so many years and will continue to inspire me till the end of my time. When I read negative comment's it shows me that those who may write negativity are only envious of the life you have, the great voice of the universe, and the superior person in which you have become. I Love and admire everything that comes from within you Yusuf...You are a great inspiration to all. None of my freshmen knew Cat Stevens! I paused and decided that it was my duty (before grammar, style, mechanics, etc.) to educate them~ :) Your music and message is eloquent and sublime. By 1986 I was running long distance and had put together a music mix on my "walkman" cassette. I was about 18 hours into a 24 Hour race around a cinder track in Birmingham, tired beyond belief, my body and mind screaming for me to stop, I grabbed my Walkman from my bag, put on my earphones and as the sun rose pressed play. The sound of Yusuf singing "Morning has Broken" came in to my ears, It took me away from myself into a realisation of the transience of things. . I did manage to keep going for the whole 24 Hours around that cinder track, and even now in my 60th year, the song and the man inspire me.

  129. Dear Yusuf, your music was comforting and sometimes felt even emotionally healing when troubles surrounded me as a teen and as a young adult. Recently, I found the same to be true; I guess we are always searching within ourselves and sometimes get caught up with our everyday lives and troubles looking for a gentler, kinder way. Recently, hearing a commercial with your music made me remember a simpler time when I turned to music for this comfort and it’s brought me back to your music again.

Just remember, whatever your name is, it doesn’t matter; whether you are Yusuf Islam, Cat Stevens your music still has a very posititive message to many people around the world. With today’s troubles and some of the bad influences some music reflects; I hope that your music will continue to reach out to generations to come. Music is one of the worlds biggest forms of communication. God wants us to spread his word and positive messages to others; that’s what your music has always done around the world to people of all religions. Many people doubted the media when they tried to destroy you, your positive messages and charitable work still ring through in the hearts of many. Thank you.

I have always done much work for charity and showed love to those around me but for some reason now I feel hiding my habits is wrong.

Thank you so much for being there to show me a good path. I only hope and pray that one day I’ll find what you found. I’ve been crying lately but find it hard to leave my habits behind and make a change. Is it possible to use alcohol and drugs and still be a good person. I’m scared.

I am a 39 year-old male from the US (with a christian upbringing and Roadsinger is my new all time favorite.

  154. I grew up with Cat Stevens's songs and His old songs always took my mind away from me. His new album has lots of missing souls which might be a part of the devil's whisper :). His new album seems so pure and doesn’t touch much because his mind is not set as free as before after he was converted to Islam. I believe Islam gave him a mission to set his mind freer then before to do better job. So he can at least convince people Islam doesn’t make people less effective. Otherwise people will think that Islam made him weak and soulless. I believe he has strength to do that and next album will be more joyful as he used to do. I love you Cat.

Tune the strings of that solitary dulcimer sitting in the corner by the door, that so dearly wants for me to sing to it once again. Your song "Welcome Home" was special to me, since the name of one of my songs inspired by you a long time ago was called "Welcome In".

  220. There is little I can add to all the wonderful comments here other than to give you a heartfelt "thank you" for the gift you have given us all with your music.

I just celebrated my 61st birthday today, and can still remember clearly when I was a young activist in the 60's for peace and a saner world. There were times then when it seemed that friends and family considered my views un-American at best. The songs "Peace Train", "Where Do the Children Play?", "Miles From Nowhere", and "Moonshadow" helped give me the strength to keep on in those times (and are still carrying me today).

I just watched your interview with Tavis Smiley, and am delighted to see you are still speaking the courage of your convictions and standing up for peace and understanding. I am equally delighted to hear your return to music. Thank you!

I myself have only an old greatest hits tape rescued from Salvation Army many years ago. The entire album is great and I hope it gets a Grammy nomination. "Welcome Home" is very powerful. The song that speaks to me the most, though, is "The Rain". I know it has Biblical references, but it also speaks to these difficult times in our country (USA) when it's so hard to be positive. But the entire album, including "Boots", is on repeat mode on my iPod every day since I bought it.

Every so often something happens to make me feel grateful and lucky to be alive to witness, and this album is one of them. A musician friend once told me as we were discussing your music, good music is a manifestation of truth and it is no more true than for your music.

Thank you for this gift to us - and for returning to your music in this way. I have read some horrible responses to your work from some very anti-Muslim people recently and I pray He gives you strength to go forward and withstand the inevitable criticism. I wholeheartedly agree with you on your website when you say 'you can argue with a philosopher but you can't argue with a good song'.

There's not been much comment on the fact of having a committed, dedicated and sincere practising Muslim producing music for the mainstream music industry... this is truly momentous. May He guide and protect you, and this precious gift that you have.

  235. Hello Yusuf, as a fan and admirer of yours for the past 38 years, I want you to know how absolutely terrific your new recording is. 'Roadsinger' has not left its position in my CD tray since I purchased it on the first day of its release, and I can assure you that it shall remain there for quite some time to come!

Here is an indication of how truly cross-generational your appeal is, Yusuf: on the morning I walked into the record store to buy 'Roadsinger', not only was yours the CD that was playing, but the clerk who was playing it (and highly praising it) couldn't have been much past high school age. He went on to tell me that he had been raised listening to your songs and, as am I, was thrilled that you have continued on with making beautiful music.

God bless you, Yusuf, and thank you. Bud Painton

  236. Roadsinger touches my soul and makes my heart dance. My favorite songs are:

"Welcome Home," (Never did I imagine what a dawn could be, ‘til I opened my eyes to see… it was welcoming me!) "Thinking 'Bout You," (It makes me think of my love for my children - Whatever they say - whatever they do – I’ll always love you) "Everytime I Dream," (love the image of that “wild pack of lies”) and "Roadsinger" (... a child’s face peeped out and gave a smile and ran back. Behind a misty glass, on a window pane, a little finger drew a perfect heart and a name). I also love "The Rain" (the driving rhythm reminds me of Noah’s ark plowing under dark clouds through a drenching downpour - I really like the drama) and "World O’ Darkness" (reminds me of "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot).

Thank you, Yusuf, for being a light in the darkness.

  241. Thank you so much for coming back to music Yusuf. You are without doubt my favourite artist and the new stuff sounds great. I love the mellow style, which reflects your ethos perfectly, but it would still be good to hear you belt out a couple more tracks, like you used too (think back to Bitterblue, for example), but perhaps next album?!

I saw you at Shepherds Bush last week and you blew me away - I only wish you'd played for longer! I hope that I get to re-live that experience at least once more in my life.

  242. As'Salamu Alaikum Brother Yusuf, You embraced Islam 30 years ago and Allah chose you to be a Muslim. I was also chosen to be a Muslim 30 years ago.

I had not listened to music in a very long time, but I heard you had new albums out and wanted to hear your new recordings. It brought back memories of when I was a teenager and enjoyed listening to your songs. Masha-Allah the words to your songs on the Roadsinger are very beautiful and with deep meaning. May Allah bless you for bringing understanding. "In the quietness of our thoughts Allah is so close."

  244. "Roadsinger" was a purchase made based on the article in NEWSWEEK, and it was a great purchase. I wish there was a bigger book of lyrics, because some of the words would have been reinforced if the lyrics were included. Some of the songs were hooked with old Cat Stevens melodies. The songs are better than expected, somewhat a forward moving throwback. I look forward to his tour.

I was absolutely over the moon it made my day and I am slowly getting to learn the lyrics.

Please consider coming down to Australia. Lots of artists pass us by when touring so please consider this ageing Aussie fan who still has her treasured first cassette of yours that I purchased with my first pay packet - hmm - many moons ago now! 253. It is too early to tell where Roadsinger sits alongside the Cat Stevens albums, I still need multiple listens for that. There is one thing that hit me right away. And that was the feeling that I had either been transported back to 1978 and time for another Cat Stevens record; or better yet, that Yusuf had not missed a step or a beat bringing his music into the 21st century. A great addition to an amazing musical legacy!
