  4. Hi Yusuf, I went to see Harold and Maude the day my dad died. I was alone and didn't have anything else to take my mind off my sadness. I laughed, cried, and felt better after. I've always loved your music, especially the songs from that movie. Recently, for some reason I don't know why, I picked up the album, Mona Bone Jakon. It was like going back in time and being here at the same time. I passed that album to some dear friends, and they are so happy to hear you again. Many love you and we're so happy you're back connecting with us with your wonderful music. All the best, and please don't leave us again.

  7. Yusuf if I may call you that. Your early music was played when I was but young, but as I learnt to appreciate music my collection of your albums grew. I purchased Roadsinger today and listened, what I heard was pure joy. In the title track I saw your journey and felt the confusion and pain in the path that was travelled - the different emotions felt in that song. Thank you for reintroducing me to your music.

  31. Dear Yusuf, ROADSINGER is so beautiful and inspiring. It brings back so many memories of creative writing. It brought tears to my eyes.

I am so happy that you have returned to your true soul's purpose. Perhaps listing to Roadsinger will help heal and bring me back to my soul once again. Tune the strings of that solitary dulcimer sitting in the corner by the door, that so dearly wants for me to sing to it once again. Your song "Welcome Home" was special to me, since the name of one of my songs inspired by you a long time ago was called "Welcome In".

May God's Inspiration, Blessings, Peace and Love surround us all as we view a vision of a new Peaceful and healing world. You are one of the drivers of that Train to Peace. Welcome back. You know that the Cat is said to have 9 lives.... You were perhaps at 4 when you left music....with a few more lives to count on. "Catch Bull at 4". Yes, Miracles do happen. May our dreams be blessed in the light and always be nearer to God's Will.

  33. There is little I can add to all the wonderful comments here other than to give you a heartfelt "thank you" for the gift you have given us all with your music.

I just celebrated my 61st birthday today, and can still remember clearly when I was a young activist in the 60's for peace and a saner world. There were times then when it seemed that friends and family considered my views un-American at best. The songs "Peace Train", "Where Do the Children Play?", "Miles From Nowhere", and "Moonshadow" helped give me the strength to keep on in those times (and are still carrying me today).

I just watched your interview with Tavis Smiley, and am delighted to see you are still speaking the courage of your convictions and standing up for peace and understanding. I am equally delighted to hear your return to music. Thank you!

  36. Mr. Islam, I LOVE Roadsinger! I have the downloaded version with "Boots and Sand" on it, but I want the DVD package now too to give as a gift to someone I know will love it. He used to love your alter-ego, Cat. He will also be thrilled to know you've returned!

I myself have only an old greatest hits tape rescued from Salvation Army many years ago. The entire album is great and I hope it gets a Grammy nomination. "Welcome Home" is very powerful. The song that speaks to me the most, though, is "The Rain". I know it has Biblical references, but it also speaks to these difficult times in our country (USA) when it's so hard to be positive. But the entire album, including "Boots", is on repeat mode on my iPod every day since I bought it.

They just don't make songwriters like you anymore. I'm glad your son found that guitar!

  40. I love the new album - I have been listening to it non stop since it came out and have bought three extra copies to give to loved ones. Every so often something happens to make me feel grateful and lucky to be alive to witness, and this album is one of them. A musician friend once told me as we were discussing your music, good music is a manifestation of truth and it is no more true than for your music.

Thank you for this gift to us - and for returning to your music in this way. I have read some horrible responses to your work from some very anti-Muslim people recently and I pray He gives you strength to go forward and withstand the inevitable criticism. I wholeheartedly agree with you on your website when you say 'you can argue with a philosopher but you can't argue with a good song'.

There's not been much comment on the fact of having a committed, dedicated and sincere practising Muslim producing music for the mainstream music industry... this is truly momentous. May He guide and protect you, and this precious gift that you have.

'Roadsinger' has not left its position in my CD tray since I purchased it on the first day of its release, and I can assure you that it shall remain there for quite some time to come!

Here is an indication of how truly cross-generational your appeal is, Yusuf: on the morning I walked into the record store to buy 'Roadsinger', not only was yours the CD that was playing, but the clerk who was playing it (and highly praising it) couldn't have been much past high school age. He went on to tell me that he had been raised listening to your songs and, as am I, was thrilled that you have continued on with making beautiful music.

  49. Roadsinger touches my soul and makes my heart dance. My favorite songs are:

"Welcome Home," (Never did I imagine what a dawn could be, ‘til I opened my eyes to see… it was welcoming me!) "Thinking 'Bout You," (It makes me think of my love for my children - Whatever they say - whatever they do – I’ll always love you) "Everytime I Dream," (love the image of that “wild pack of lies”) and "Roadsinger" (... a child’s face peeped out and gave a smile and ran back. Behind a misty glass, on a window pane, a little finger drew a perfect heart and a name). I also love "The Rain" (the driving rhythm reminds me of Noah’s ark plowing under dark clouds through a drenching downpour - I really like the drama) and "World O’ Darkness" (reminds me of "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot).

Thank you, Yusuf, for being a light in the darkness.

  57. "Roadsinger" was a purchase made based on the article in NEWSWEEK, and it was a great purchase. I wish there was a bigger book of lyrics, because some of the words would have been reinforced if the lyrics were included. Some of the songs were hooked with old Cat Stevens melodies. The songs are better than expected, somewhat a forward moving throwback. I look forward to his tour.

  79. When I was young, I found so much love and wisdom in your songs I was heartbroken when you left but I understood. Now I am a born again Christian and you are a gentle and wise Muslim, both having a deep love for our Saviours. Your latest songs run so deep in your love for Allah, you have broken barriers in public opinion of the Muslim religion. Your reward will be great for that. Beautiful songs. I think, aside from 'Peace Train', your best and wisest yet. So, though I would never leave my Jesus, I say Allah be with you. As you say, There is "only one God" and He loves us all! Thank you for being you.

  81. I thought AN OTHER CUP was a beautiful album, but I think this latest one, ROADSINGER, is even better. I've immersed myself in it like very few albums in recent memory-- and I LOVE and download music constantly. There is a wisdom and honesty to this music that is timeless. It's so nice to hear music that MEANS something, that reveals, and teaches, and makes you think, and entertains all at the same time. Your work years ago was wonderful, but I think you've gotten better with age, Yusuf. God bless you, and may we continue to hear you sing your song for many years to come.

  82. I love your new album. I can remember driving around in Gunnison CO in the winters of 1970-1973 listening to your music with the snow falling and everything white. On nights when it was 20 below zero we would sit around and discuss how your life must be. I am glad you are making music again. My son is a self made guitar player that is highly enfluenced by you (he has a tatoo of "Catch Bull @ 4" on his arm) and writes all his own music. He has your light shining inside, a fire that you have stoked. Thank you for being here for us.

  83. "Roadsinger" is a truly beautiful, brilliant album. I love every song, but I guess that "Everytime I Dream" and "Roadsinger" are my favourites. Yusuf, you still have the most beautiful, soulful voice. I'm so glad this is happening for you... and for the world. Peace and Blessings~Pattie

You have always been so inspired and gifted and the Spirit enlightens you like no other I have ever known. Thank You for listening and for writing and sharing this love with us all. 86. Roadsinger is my favorite - but all are wonderful. So many have experienced the things you sing about in Roadsinger - friends who turn their back - people who just don't understand. Wiping tears from our eyes, we continue on - now that you have returned to help steer us with your magical lyrics, and beautiful melodies. Thank you Yusuf - for coming back. You have been SO missed, and your vision is needed now, I think, more than ever. Encourage Yoriyos to speak out - he has talent, and the vision!! Peace and light ~~~~ Nancy

  95. Dear Yusuf - my wife and I are thrilled with the new release and have been eagerly awaiting its arrival for months. The CD is the best of both worlds: New works that harken back in style and substance. We truly can't choose favorite tracks as we love each of them and are savoring (savouring) them but, if pushed, "Roadsinger" and "Welcome Home" are awesome and "Shamsia" is unspeakably beautiful and delicate. Your talent is boundless dear sir!

We live in New Hampshire in the U.S.A. If you are ever interested in an intimate venue (260 or less) we've got just the place for you! It has been a distinct pleasure to have been fans of yours from the very beginning. Thank you for letting us come on the journey that is your life. You and your music are rare, precious and beautiful. We have enjoyed watching you recently on Stateside television shows such as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and the "Steven Colbert Report." Yes, we've caught them all! We are also thrilled that you have the GREAT Alun Davies by your side again! Here's one couple who still have his "Daydo" vinyl LP.
