Yusuf on Al Jazeera

Yusuf will be interviewed by Riz Khan for a live broadcast tomorrow on Al Jazeera at 19:30GMT.*

It’ll be your first chance to hear and see a snippet of ‘My People’ which featured many of your voices in chorus with Yusuf. The song was recorded less than a hundred yards from the site of the Berlin wall, the downfall of which symbolized a massive victory in the quest of freedom for impounded and oppressed people.

The release date for the free download of ‘My People’ will be announced this week God willing – stay tuned.

1. Oh my! Don't you look spiffy dressed in artsy black, strolling along the Berlin Wall! I do appreciate that plaid is a folksy Fabric of the People, especially for one who is getting in touch with his Swedish heritage again. But it clashes with your music. Worse, it dampens your aura. Your best colors are simple blacks and whites. If you must be yang, the lavenders and prussian blues you favor in artwork also very good. Since burnt umber is a balancing mixture of the spectrum, it can work too -- but it's risky. Anything else distracts. Especially orange. Yes, I'm referring to the incorrigible coat lining. Sure, purple and orange are my favorites too. I understand that you love color. I've seen the Cat Stevens photos (ahem) and I've seen your recent artwork. (Have you considered colorful undergarments? No , I don't want to know--- that was strictly rhetorical!) You have a job to do! You are the Peace Train, dude! Your aura is the "all aboard!" Use it well. (Sigh . . . 2. Habib: When you told Riz that you've always been a flower child, I almost kissed the laptop. I regained a measure of control by hugging my VW peace bug, plastering a "Save Tibet" bumper sticker on its rear window, and dancing to Angelsea for 30 minutes. Growing old is necessary; growing up is optional !

5. I saw part of the interview this morning but didn't catch all of it. I did catch the refrain of My People - Very nice. If you can imagine that the Earth is one Chorus and Mankind its Voice, as Yusuf has imagined here, then how easy is it to imagine that "The Earth is but One Country and Mankind its Citizens."

Ok...What I'm trying to understand is why other Muslim celebrities such as, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Muhammad Ali, Jermaine Jackson just to name a few, aren't questioned relentlessly about their Muslim faith when they are interviewed like Yusuf endures every time he's interviewed. As far as I'm concerned that question has been asked and answered by Yusuf more than enough. It should be apparent by now that through all his good works he is a man of conviction and compassion for all. Peace be with you and your family. Bless you Yusuf.

Just watched the interview...It was so well presented ..Yusuf came over extremely strong and confident ,yet gentle and approachable,and the old vid of Cat's Peace Train made everything flow..an acceptance of old to new......I was impressed by the questions and Yusufs answers .......A true activist through music...what a coup!Well done Yusuf...stay safe,,one of the people Sabina x

10. I have to ask too, Is 19:30 GMT, 8:30 Eastern time- USA? I really want to listen but I'm a little confused about the real time and where to find Al Jazeera. Is it on the internet? I sure hope I can figure it out soon, so I can be ready. You know Yusuf, I think it's wonderful that you share so much of your life with all of us and not just through your wonderful songs. We should all be so open about our life. I'm thankful for you. We've all been blessed because of your presence here on earth during our lifetime. 13. Assaalam Alaikum, I am anxious to hear and will tune to AJ. I found out that you came to the Islamic University in Kuala Lumpur (where I had been for three months) a week after I departed. I was so disappointed I missed the program. But, a kind student sent me a brief excerpt he recorded. I know what is happening in the world today will unfold in ways we have yet to IMAGINE. 14. The "My People Poster" is a section of the Berlin Wall AND it looks so much like African textile art. What a find! The overlapping faces on the poster rang a familiar bell. Check out the wonderful cover art by Theoniek Verdurmen on the CD of "The Lovers & The Prayers of Kierkegaard" by Samuel Barber (Koch, 1991). As the Taoists say, all love is drawn from the same well.

Blessed be the day to you Yusuf~ hmmm... what a feeling ...I'm sure it is... to walk right next to the remnants of The Wall... powerful and yet so freeing ... as I'm sure it was to complete the song "My People" -- and gather such committed "in Heart" musicians and all to make it possible. God Bless you All.. You are an inspiration as we all should be daily ... you are a window to moments of States of Perfection" ... We all have a ministry of sorts to share with all we meet as we greet the new day God has given us God Willing..
