Great interview! Brilliant. Such exciting times in the region. It will be a long struggle in all the countries of the region - nothing comes easy - but in the end the people will win. My main hope is that the imperial powers are unable to leverage their ongoing neocolonial, neoliberal economic agenda with whatever the new configurations are as they did so effectively with the despots of the old juntas. Freedom means freedom from overlordship and gaining control of one's own resources. Thanks again for the great vibes!
The earth belongs to all of us (no matter our religious beliefs). We all have common ancestors. If everyone could agree to that and respect one another, peace might have a chance. You give me hope. Thank you for your heart for unity. ...
plaid shirt… the aqua brown black off white plaid … a bit of color heightens one bounce and watching you mixing “My People†well I don’t think I’ve seen you in the fullness of Joy like that in a while maybe at RAH concert ! Keep Shining Yus and wearing a bit of color! ~ And doing what you were you born to do with J.O.Y.~
May the Lord continue to bless all his people and protect his heritage ~~
In Joy,

Assalamu aleikum ua rahmatu Allah, I don't know if you ever read these coments, but I need to say this anyway, Allah gave you a blessing gift, you have a wonderful voice that reach deep in our hearts...and your words reach deep in our souls. You are an example of what a human being should be, so please keep inspiring and I'm sure you will earn a milions of hasanat because you make people like me think of your words and be close to Allah, search for the Quran El karim.... Thank you for everything, you brought me the light after years of darkness...Jazaka Allah.
Dearest YusufCat, with this interview You shine as the brilliant and very conscious Man of God, who has a very clear view of the world's situation, but at the same time has a great understanding, love and compassion towards the people in the Middle East and Arab countries, who have just uprisen from tyranny and oppression! I deeply respect your Truth, Love, Wisdom and Wit, "Oh, Flower Power Child!" I sincerely hope that the new song "My People" with its meaningful message will become a future hymn to Love+Peace = Unity, since Your People is My People United as Oneâ£May be blessed⣠{{{♥â♥}}}
fine interview Yusuf how you explain the need of music to bring messages to people about live and the way to live with eachother in Peace. To show people that we stand behind them in there lives in difficult times. My people we believe in you ,we believe in a better live for everyone ,thanks and Peace.Am i wrong or not is that Majid who sings in the background choir singing my people?
I really looking forward to the whole song ,we need a practice lol for singing in tune in the coming concerts .We say here singing so false as a cat (not Cat Stevens lol)so i have work to do
Great interview! I loved how you said "I was a flower child, and never stopped being a flower child." I feel the same way.
I remember, back in 1971, when living in the US was so hard - everyone was hating everyone else, and there was a sense that the revolution was going to happen any day, and it wasn't going to be pretty. And then they started playing this beautiful song on the radio that seemed to be a call to prayer, almost. A prayer of peace - a prayer for everyone to just try to work it out without fighting, without bloodshed. "Peace Train" was like a soothing balm of aloe applied to a burning rash on the public soul back then. It still is one of my most cherished songs, which I play for my family and friends at times on my guitar. Thank you for giving us your music, and I look forward to hearing your latest song online.
Salaams brother Yusuf, great interview as always, you are our ambassador for Islam and do us proud.
ps.. just joined the redroom first time and like to say it was a pleasure to be at your concert in melbourne and then your promise for peace lecture at the arts centre melbourne, please come back soon
sammy
Blessed be the day to you Yusuf~~
What a heartfelt and inviting interview done with such pathos ! You touched on so many amazing and inciteful points with ease and joy in your Spirit .. One especially hit a note for me “there is no better way to use music than to use it for something meaningful†It’s true .. back in the days when we grew up … in the 60's and 70's alot of music enveloped a human ideal .. one was singing with a catch in their voice and such a message that it reverberated globally - and now somehow this has gotten lost somewhere .. No one created meaningful music with a message like you then and No one now .. one of your many charisms.. As for Islam .. seeing one and feeling one living it is a beautiful peaceful feeling …. I think the young people in the turmoiled countries now are letting the government know they will not tolerate not having freedom any longer. Praise the Lord for …… This is magnimous History in the making!!!! and a Birthright for All~
I enjoyed the vibe of the trailer of “My People†words that ring so true ~ I cant wait to sing it and feel the vibe in my inner island .~
On a visual note, I love the colors you are wearing in your
The words of "My People" are what all who hope for peace and justice want to scream in the ears of oppressive dictators: "Can't you hear them shout ... stop running from, stop stealing from, stop pointing guns ..."
It warms my heart to see an artist of your stature bravely mount his public soap box for a cause like this.
May The Power, and the powers that be, allow us to continue using the internet "correctly, for ideals." Please, keep on reminding all of us --East and West-- to ignore the soundbite politicians who build careers on pointing fingers and igniting hatred. Solidarity! The message of peace echoes around the world and across the ages, from Buddha to Mohammad, and beyond: With Ghandi who urged "Be the change you want to see in the world," with the brave Africans who are now choosing to risk their lives at gunpoint, with the artists who inspire us to action and immortalize the struggle. The example of your life amazes me. It inspires me to be that inward source of change each time I hear your voice. Keep the faith!
Salaams Yusuf, great interview - well done! I'm am so glad that you are now 'complete'. Music is your gift from Allah as is Islam. Now that you are synthesising both what you say and sing has a double resonance and greater impact. I pray for your continued success. By the way, if you ever need a drummer...!!!
A few words form down under in Australia .... suburban Melbourne, in the state of Victoria.
Like Yusuf, I believe we are all one family.
I wanted to say one thing.
If all the men on earth had a heart like him.... the problems of humanity would be over.
Yes I am a fan... yes I love his music... but I would attend his events if he were not singing... just talking.
To see, hear, feel the depth of his compassion and the warmth of his inclusive love for all of us.
We are blessed that he walks the earth and tries to unite us.
Too be in the presence of someone with this amount of integrity is often once in a lifetime.
Kind Regards
Tricia
Hi Yusuf..yes we all were flower children.....but we all screwed up didn't we?.....You say Islam made your flower bossom a bit more (cute).....and NOW look where you are and what you are achieving.....such a powerful Da'wah for the prophet pbuh.....I am learning....For me you are not my guru,or teacher, nor my icon or fantasy, nor a father figure, nor an object of adulation, person to person I love you as brother, for trying to act on our youthful ideals..you are a gentle dai embracing all...we all need to begin to cultivate and propogate those flowers!!!You've made a brave start....stay safe...just a petal ,Sabina x
