The 36 Year Wait is Nearly Over...

Yusuf’s highly anticipated return to the Australian stage is just hours away, with the opening concert at Perth’s Challenge Stadium taking place on Thursday.

Since arriving in Australia last week, Yusuf has been rehearsing with the tour team and enjoying his time in Perth. â€œI have been dreaming of coming back to Australia for many years, it is a place that has been part of my musical and spiritual journey. The good news is, this time my son as well as my wife and daughter are with me.â€

He added â€œI am delighted to be in beautiful warm Perth and I have been spending time with my family enjoying the sights and walking around this lovely and welcoming city.â€

Yusufâ€™s son, Yoriyos, and his band Noxshi will join him on the tour as a support act. The band formed in North London in 2008 and spent 2009 performing on the London circuit. In May 2009 they supported Yusuf, Baaba Maal and U2 at the Shepherds Bush Empire. Noxshi will present a primarily Blues Rock set reminiscent of 1968, which is sure to impress audiences.

3. Thank you so much for a beautiful experience last night when you blessed us with a concert in Perth. Noxshi's set was fantastic and innovative. Their last song had us was brilliant and had us (dumbstruck). Your voice was beautiful, your music is relevant and important. It has created peace in my soul that I hope will last for a while. 4. What a brilliant show from Yusuf and his band. Saw Cat in Perth in '72 and it has always been my most memorable concert. Last night might even have eclipsed that. It is hard to believe that there is so much time between Catch Bull at Four and An Other Cup and Roadsinger, it was seamless. Thank you Yusuf for your warm and friendly interaction with us all - it was like catching up with an old friend. Please come back again! (And we already had both new albums before last night!)

13. Yusuf, thank you so much for an absolutuely inspiring concert last night. My husband and I loved every minute of it as you are a consummate entertainer as well as a great singer/songwriter. After failing to get tickets when they first went on sale, despite constant trying,I was absolutely devastated as I've been a huge fan of yours since my university days and I was at your first concert in Perth at the WACA in 1972.I even have the programme from that concert somewhere! Fortunately, however, we were truly lucky to obtain tickets as late as Tuesday night by a chance visit to Gumtree website, so we were obviously meant to be there. It was also a great pleasure to see and hear your son and his band performing and we wish him every success. All the very best for the rest of your Australian tour. Your performance was polished yet impromtu and your band were also amazing . Its hard to find the words but it was just so special . 23. Tonight I shared a part of music history with a bunch of Aussies in Perth when we attended Yusufs' first Australian concert in 38 years. The man's voice is 'pure' , magical, and a gift from God. Hi, My name is susan i am new here I was just wondering if Yusuf would be interested in meeting our daughter while he is in New Zealand We are probably unable to attend the concert but my father and I are big fans and would love to get the chance to see the concert or have Yusuf come and visit my daughter iaysha. She is diagnosed with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy it makes her unable to move or speak and she is in constant pain. I am trying to get the Dr here to prescrib some pain med but its proving difficult. She can not really well focus or look at anything but she can hear and loves it when I sing to her. Not that I have a particularly good singing voicebut she likes the high pitch notes! She can still smile.When i sing and move her arms and legs for her. I thought that Yusuf might be interested in donating to the organizations that do research for a cure.At this stage there is no cure, please if you could bring this to his attention I would be very grateful. I am sure that there is a way to fix the problem, we just haven't figured it out yet. Iaysha was named after a song I was introduced to by a Muslim I met when I was in London, I also share the love for the Quoran.yours sinc

After reading Debbie's post, I was thinking about my own feelings about seeing and hearing Yusuf play, and questioning this adulation we all have which I'm sure he is not entirely comfortable with. It reminds me of how I felt when I went to hear the Dalai Lama speak recently in Melbourne. Something about physically being in the presence of a great spiritual man, and seeking to make a more immediate heart to heart connection with his message, and coming together with many others to share the energy. It's the same with Yusuf's music. I heard something Yusuf said recently about "the voice being the closest thing to the heart vibration and the whole human being" - so it seems like in singing live Yusuf is giving his heart to those in the audience who open their own heart in return. I hope the adulation is received by Yusuf as a sign that people are responding to the spirit message in his music. Best Wishes

What can I say??? 9 days till my Melbourne concert... it's almost impossible to describe ... the anticipation and excitement ....but its more than that... it's something about being close (in person) to a truly courageous soul.. it's about awe and admiration toward a human being that I hold in the highest of regard... . and of course there is the music ... yes the music that speaks... entwined in our memories... that gives us that feeling like finding a long lost friend... that tugs on our hearts and stirs emotions... songs that speak of our own dreams, fears and hopes... wow ... thank you for being you and for sharing. 36. Welcome! I hope you and your family enjoy some of our beautiful sunny winter days. The milky way is a beautiful sight on these clear nights. The southern hemisphere winter Soltice is on the 21st June - the returning of the sun's light, coinciding with the return of Yusuf's music to our side of the world, truly another light.
