Ramadan Reflection

Everybody’s thinking about the rain…

As the Holy Month of Ramadan befalls, many of our home-earth’s inhabitants are struggling to stay alive, others are preparing to fast and perform extra nightly prayers. The recent and ongoing rains and floods in Pakistan bring to the forefront the need for all people to stretch their hands out as far as they can and help. This is the best Month to perform good deeds and we should not wait for governments and armies to do what is necessary. There is a saying that the troubles which strike us are caused by the misdoings of mankind. But, of course not all people who suffer are guilty of anything more than being unwitting subjects of corrupt and roughshod regimes. That’s the unfortunate way of the world. Yet good is always there, when people rise up and act kindly towards their fellow beings. God sees everything, good and bad, but the good will be rewarded boundlessly. So let’s join forces with the good, and give charity as well as pray and fast in this month. May the blessings of Ramadan be with you all –

I sense that during the intervening 20 years, your thinking on some of these issues may have developed. "People of The Book." Do you -- yeah, this is a personal question-- if I want to know what Hamza thinks I'll ask him --- do YOU include the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Tao Te Ching, The Heart Sutra, The Diamond Sutra as divinely inspired books? Do you credit Hindus, Buddhists, Australian Aborigines, Navahos, Druids, etc., as having valid interpretations of the divine mystery or do you believe that Mohammad delivered the Last word on the one and only true religion ( as opposed to being the "seal" in the sense of "confirmation")?

4. May the blessings of Ramadan be with you also. Many years ago one of my workers was Muslim and invited me to their nightly Ramadan dinner. I felt so welcome and treated as a guest should be treated. Living in the US I did not know much about Islam. However, My friend's devotion to Allah and His family's hospitality have always stayed in my mind. Thereafter I was open and welcoming to all the other Muslims I have meet in my life. Peace can come with understanding Inshalla.

5. Living in the U.S., and among Americans abroad, I have always been the first to defend Muslims, and Islam Itself, when negative things were said. Yet I was always saddened that many Muslims project ill will and and even hatred toward followers of the Baha'i faith. I have read Yusuf's commentary "Ground Zero". It was heart-warming, no, more than that, it was Heart-Melting to see a Muslim include Baha'is as among those who worship the one Creator God of Abraham, Jesus and Muhammed. Thank you, Yusuf.

6. I am so glad that Yusuf is dispelling the irrational anti-Islamic attitudes so prevalent in the West. The light of Truth can push back the shadows of bigotry and mistrust. But I am sad to say that Islam itself generates its own irrational bigotry and loathing toward followers of the Baha'i faith, a religion that only seeks the unity of all people under one God. In many Islamic countries the denial of basic human rights for Baha'is is State Policy. Who will speak for the Baha'is in those countries? Will you?

7. I am curious about all religions. I revere all prophets of the book. In these days an open mind can be dangerous especially in the usa. It is unfortunate that since I have been searching Islamic sites for knowledge that my puter has been the target of viral attacks. This will not dissuade me.

14. I was listening to "O Cartitas" today and feeling the meaning of the words. It has been over 30 years and Yusuf could have written those words today probably with more emphasis on tristitate et lacrimis. Why will we not learn? as he quotes from the Quran " and who intercedes for evil cause will have a burden thereform.

17. Cynthia Peace , You always express yourself so well concisely,precisely,kindly and wisely. I support the shelter population in my area as many times/yr as I can,It holds about 10 families at any given time.I never thought about making it a news event which could help create peace full relations in the community,because I try to shy away from show.I am going to work on your Idea this Year.In fact we celebrate International day for prayer for peace(IDPP) here in virginia.To engage the Youth,I had planned for the youth group to feed the residents at the shelter as one of the events for that day.. Then On the event of IDPP which is at a Buddhist temple this year express there joy experienced in serving the less fortunate. With all humility I pray it will go well. We have a saying that :"Give in a such a way that the left hand does`nt know what the right hand gave".So always shunned news ,but reading your idea,I think I will stick to this,after all during christmas it is always shown on t.v. 23. At the weekend, my local radio broadcast a story about local muslims who celebrated the end of their fast by sharing food with community groups and especially the local homeless. This kind of activity will go a long way to help build relationships between people of differing beliefs. Thank you to all muslims who spread peace and understanding,in this way, and other ways, and by doing so, help to build stronger more caring communities. Incidentally please feel free to change it everything but as I said my friends folks lost everything ina mudslide and I imagine all you could do in such an instance -was Think. Sometimes all we see is struggle & sometimes others want to assure us that we are struggling because we are not practicing our faith 'correctly'.
