'Celebrate Mercy' Webcast

This year the Islamic month of Rabi Al Awal, in which the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born, falls in the month of February. Yusuf lends his voice along with others in celebrating the life of the Last Prophet (pbuh) on February 25th 9pm EST for a live, global webcast.

Dear and Respected yusuf, Thank you for your song and words of wisdom on birthday celebrations of Mohammed(a mercy to mankind).It was just superb,but your actions of supporting the thousands of orphans(of war) speaks louder than any words heard.Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)himself was an orphan and you are so blessed with the ability and desire to support the orphans in such great numbers.May God protect you from evil eyes.

Godâ€™s mercy extends to all of humanity and to all of his creatures - and I love hearing what everyone thinksâ€¦ Your latest post was particularly eloquent, and contained so much wisdom. 5. Dear Cynthia, Thank you for your posts, too. To answer your earlier question, my understanding of why some Muslims celebrate the birthday of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and others donâ€™t, is that thereâ€™s more than one scholarly opinion, and each Muslim follows the opinion he or she considers to be most correctâ€¦ Muslims generally agree that we should remember the Prophet (pbuh) and follow his example every day. Some take this further by having special remembrances and celebrations on the Prophetâ€™s (pbuh) birthday. Others fear that such birthday celebrations will lead to extravagant praise, and then to worshipping and deifying the Prophet (pbuh). This would be a great sin, so they choose not to celebrate his birthdayâ€¦God knows best.

6. Emre, I read the article you mentioned, and would like to thank you for sharing it. Iâ€™m sure someone had good intentions in writing this, but if they had given it to me when I was a practicing Christian, I donâ€™t think I would have felt â€œinvitedâ€ to Islam. To me, itâ€™s an example of how we Muslims sometimes confuse KNOWLEDGE with WISDOM (hikma). If the WAY someone writes or speaks chases people away- even if he believes heâ€™s speaking the truth - then where is the wisdom?...Iâ€™m reminded of the following verse of Quran: Invite to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and reason with them in ways that are best and most gracious: (Quran 16:125)â€¦To me, there is much â€œwisdom and beautiful preachingâ€ in many of Yusufâ€™s songs, and so much gentleness and graciousness in all he does â€¦Such humility, gentle words, and kind deeds can soften hearts and truly invite others to learn more about Islam (if theyâ€™d like to). Thatâ€™s the level of wisdom I strive for â€“ and I ask your forgiveness for when I fail to reach it.

9. I pray for a day when man does not thinks of killing a man ,but only thinks of killing the Hiv virus until the virus is gone from the face of this earth. I hope Yusuf`s effort to unite the children of Abrahim shall be rewarded and there will only be slaughter of lambs and not that of humans . May God the Merciful bless us with peace and love for one another. This planet is neither mine nor yours but it is ours.

10. Gandhi a well Known and well read Hindu of Brahmin Banya caste, (He had read Koran,bible and Geeta which is his own holy book) He helped India Gain its Independance . He has said this about Mohammed (a mercy to mankind)That what Mohammed taught was good for muslims as well as for all the mankind. Also notice the love and respect Mohammed instilled in the hearts of his followers for the messangers of God who came before him i.e. ; Jesus,Moses Abraham and others ;that no matter how many crusades come and go,but Jesus and Moses are never disrespected by Muslims.How unique and kind is my teacher and how unifying is he. I personally consider them(Messengers ) as my teachers and the qoran teaches me make no distinction between any one of the messengers.This is the beauty of the message brought by the last messenger. I shall also quote something interesting. The name of Moses is mentioned in quran approximately 125 times and that of Jesus son of Mary 25 times and that of Mohammed 5 times only.If anyone disrespects Koran (like using it as a Target for shooting )think who is getting disrespected.I pray for mankind to step out of darkness to step into light.I pray for a day when man doe

11. Does anyone know why some Muslims celebrate Muhammeds birthday, and others don't? The celebration of mercy/compassion is a great idea. Having a special day to do this helps spread the idea. We would have no wars, would we, if everyone was compassionate. Will the broadcast be at 2am, in the UK? If so, I hope it will be recorded, as some of us don't have access to a computer at that hour! 13. Sunny thanks for your voice of compassion and reason. I always look forward to your posts. I'm neither from any of these three faiths nor from the USA so I'm not sure if I have any part in this latest conversation. But as you have rightly pointed out, this thread is about the Celebration of Mercy so I believe I can say a few words? And I believe a wise, gentle person like Yusuf will only welcome my voice here. 17. Emre, The sad fact is that radicals from any group can sow seeds of fear and hatred, and hurt many innocents, including wonderfully good people like Yusuf. Itâ€™s important to remember that the time you refer to was a time of great fear and confusion, and itâ€™s understandable that over-caution and mistakes in identity would occur. But itâ€™s over and done - and forgivenâ€¦ Then and now, people of ALL faiths have openly and lovingly embraced Yusufâ€™s return to the US and to music, and we need to continue healing wounds and rebuilding trustâ€¦ Rather than thinking in terms of â€œusâ€ and â€œthemâ€, I like to remember that Muslims, Christians, and Jews are all People of the Scriptures, and can and do live in peace and harmony all over the worldâ€¦â€¦. 18. Not allowing Yusuf Islam to enter the US, was an act driven by malicious crusade mentalities with an ulterior motive to openly antagonise Islam. However, this situation resulted against them. While he was going to meet a few people there, the subject matter has now spread worldwide. Yusuf Islam had no gun, nor plane, yet why did the US fear him? They feared him because, above all he has faith. â€œO you who believe! Guard your own souls: If you are on the right way, no hurt can come to you from those who stray. To Allah is your return, of all (of you), and then He will inform you of what you did.â€ (Al-Maeda: 105) They know well that their book has been altered. Thus this is what Allah (the most gracious the most merciful) informs us: â€œThey change the words from their places and forget a good part of the message that was sent themâ€¦â€ (Al-Maeda: 105) They have seen the bible altered and destroyed, yet why do they still hide this truth? Because they want to cover the truths.

I'm so happy to read that a portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit the Haitian earthquake victims - what an exemplary way to globally celebrate, by sharing WITH ALL OF HUMANITY the mercy of Allah (all glory and praise be to Him) and the Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him)...
