Yusuf To Speak At Toronto's RIS Conference

Yusuf will be participating as a guest speaker at the Reviving The Islamic Spirit conference this month.

The event takes place in Toronto from 25th-29th December and will be attended by Islamic scholars and well known academics from around the world.

Im sorry, im 24 years old im young and thats my fault, I grew up listening to your music along with many others, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, fleetwood Mac etc. Because I was born in the 80's I havent had the chance 2 see many of my favorite artists, of course some have passed.... But what the heck happend to you Cat? Brother you must have had some wild parties through the years cause it seems your still on a bad trip!! I mean, have u seen the pictures of yourself? stupid question huh? Honestly Cat, your music will stand the test of time, ur an Icon! God Bless, but im sure I speak for a great many people! Bring CAT BACK!!!

2. Yes Yusuf / The Cat, Jim Squires here from Newfoundland, Canada. I had the opportunity to see your live performance at Massy Hall, Toronto, Canada in 1975 or 76. Twas a great show !! I was also happy to be present at the Dec. 08-2009, Albert Hall Concert. The gereral feeling of; Good To See You All Again was transparent; both with yourself and in the audience. That evening for many was a great reunion and also a somber fairwell. I personally feel that you are On The Road To Find Out. We all hope to see you again. Jim

3. Dear Cynthia --- I, too, hope that Yusuf keeps warm in Toronto. I remember that when I was a little girl, Iâ€™d get very concerned whenever I saw snow on top of the little Baby Jesus in an outdoor Nativity. I wanted to go and cover him up because his swaddling clothes just werenâ€™t enough. Maybe itâ€™s a maternal thing. May all who feel isolated, cold, or alone during this holiday season, find peace and warmth in knowing that God, the angels, and our prayers are with you. Peace and smiles.

5. Thank you for the link to the Reviving the Islamic Spirit convention. (I keep wishing the name were something like Reviving the Islamic Spirit with Excellence, so the acronym would be RISE rather than RIS. Maybe RIS means something in Arabic?) It was very reassuring to see â€œDr. Yusuf Islamâ€™sâ€ familiar face amongst all the other speakers. Itâ€™s interesting to note that the convention takes place over the Christmas weekend, because to me, the speakers are like modern day Shepherds and Wise Men (and Women), anxiously watching over and guiding their flocks. Itâ€™s interesting to note that some dress the same way as Mary and Joseph did in the time of Jesus (peace be upon him.) One of my greatest joys when I converted to Islam was in knowing that Islam embraces and evolves from Judaism and Christianity, and I didnâ€™t have to reject my Christian upbringing, family, or friends when I became a Muslim. My beliefs changed somewhat, and yet the heart of many remained, including my belief in the birth of Jesus (pbuh) by the Virgin Mary (may God be pleased with her). The poem in my next post was inspired by a visit to Jerusalem and Bethlehem as a Muslim.

6. Best Wishes Frank. I was just going by the internet weather forecast! Todays is 2c, but feeling like -4.(overcast). I wonder if that's accurate. No doubt Yusuf will know! Just hope he's warm and safe. And love and peace for the conference to all.xxxx

As a Canadian born and bred , I am excited that you are coming to Canada, albeit the eastern side and not Vancouver. just found your website recently, but I always knew you went from cat stevens to your real self Yusuf Islam. I am interested in your thoughts on promoting harmony between the "anglo saxons" if you will (regardless of religion) of Canada and the muslim community. I will keep reading about you and your blog as I am sure I will find what I am looking for. And hope that perhaps you will come to Vancouver to meet with the many different islamic community groups who welcome those like myself who may not be religious unto itself but tolerant of all mankind regardless of their religion. As a child born in 1964 growing up with your songs it is so great to understand how peaceful your life is and what wonderful things you are doing with your life. Thank you for becoming so public once again.The world is a better place with you in it.

8. Actually Cynthia, Toronto beckons with sunny skies and (relatively) moderate temperatures...certainly not any worse than that great day in March '76 when Cat and crew brought fans at Massey Hall to their feet...may the children of Abraham find common inspiration in the God that is Love

12. Have just looked at the trailer for this. It's like the beginning of an epic film, and the music is very impressive. Tariq Ramadan seems a really nice person...I was impressed by what he said, full of hope. But, of course, you will know best Yusuf, as you probably know them all?
