Yusuf To Attend Hal Ashby Tribute In Los Angeles

On the evening of June 25th Yusuf will be attending a special night being held in tribute to Hal Ashby.

Said Yusuf: “The impact of my musical legacy was due in part to the fact that Hal Ashby embraced my albums and used them as a soundtrack for his amazing film ‘Harold and Maude’. People are as tied to that film as they are to my music and this event is an opportunity for me to honour the memory of the man.”

Hal was the director behind Harold and Maude, the 1971 romantic comedy featuring a soundtrack of Cat Stevens songs.

The night takes place at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater and will be hosted by writer and director Cameron Crowe.

1. Have now watched Harold and Maude, with my son (in honour of Yusuf/Stevens trip to the Hal Ashby event). My son thinks its the best film he has ever seen, and loves the soundtrack (naturally!). I just wish I'd seen the film (priceless!!) when it was first released... it would really have helped me! Should be a must for all shy people to watch, preferably while they are still 15yrs old, before they have to face adult issues! lovexx

2. I saw you perform last night at the Hal Ashby tribute. Your music is still as beautiful and inspiring as it was when I first heard it back in the 70's. Harold and Maude is my all time favorite movie, but I knew your music before I ever saw the movie, and loved it from the beginning. I just read your time line and you are truly an awesome soul. 3. As a fan of 35 years I just want to thank Yusuf for all he has given the world, and thank the creator that he is giving back again in the language of his very special music.
  
  My Muslim husband, now deceased, was a huge fan as well, and Yusuf thank you for making every moment of our lives beautiful with your music, from birth to death. The same songs I listened to as a teen still move me to tears every time I hear them. Your last two albums are poignant and beautiful. Thank you for returning your music to the world.

4. Great soundtrack. My son Matthew (named after guess which of your early songs) has the DVD, so must watch it. It looks a bit scary, but I'm sure the soundtrack will carry me through it!! Good Luck with the trip. Lucky old America... again! You have to come to the North West (UK), before you do that musical. OK?

6. Just listened to all the songs on the soundtrack. It's the songs that make me like the movie. "Don't Be Shy" and "I Think I See the Light" are my favorites. It's so cool that Cameron Crowe issued the "Harold and Maude" soundtrack on all vinyl last December. Here's what he had to say about it:
