Yusuf Honoured At The German Sustainability Awards

On November 6th Yusuf will be accepting the Special Achievement trophy at the German Sustainability Awards.

The awards, established in 2008, recognise individuals and organisations that promote the principles of a sustainable society and are supported by HRH The Prince of Wales.

Yusuf will be presented with the award at a special ceremony in Dusseldorf. The previous winner of the award was Annie Lennox.

3. Dear Yusuf, I was a great fan of yours though i was never old enough to attend your concerts. You were gone from the music scene by the time i was a teen. I must confess that my heart was broken in pieces when i heard you had converted to Islam years ago and i vowed that i would never hear your music again BUT. Time rolls on and we learn much from our foolish actions. Having been an American Soldier now for nearly twenty years, having been deployed to Iraq three times and coming close to death more than once, wisdom of a kind has dawned in my soul. In the darkest moments in Iraq whose songs popped into my head but Cat Stevens. I wept for sadness at my own foolish grudge against you and began to understand your own disillusionment with the suffering of this world as I looked around at the carnage America was inflicting on Iraq and Afghanistan. I started listening to Cat Stevens again and began to appreciate Yusuf. Thanks for being true to your Belief despite the great cost to yourself. 4. As a child of the 60's, I like to go back to the music of that era. I came across "Peace Train" and was reminded of how powerful and innovative that song was. It reminded me of old ideals and hopes for mankind. I admire you for following your heart and path in new directions, for taking risks and expressing the highest ideals of your religion in a world gone mad with violence. 9. Dear Yusuf, Congratulations for the award you´ll get tomorrow. Well, I live only half an hour away from Düsseldorf and of course, I wish I could be there,too!!
