Rave Reviews of Yusuf's LA Gig

Last night Yusuf played his first show in Los Angeles in over 30 years at the El Rey theatre.

Before an ecstatic crowd of invited guests, VIP’s and competition winners, Yusuf performed an hour long set of songs covering the span of his career, mixing old classics with new material from his latest album, Roadsinger.

Celebrity guests included Colin Farrell, Van Morrison and Rosanna Arquette among others. Music critics have lauded Yusuf’s return to the US stage.

1. Please come back to Motreal (the city that loves you). Father and son was one of the only songs that resonated with me as a young man in the early 70's. Mother earth is a better place for having born you.

4. I was only 16 years old when he played in Florida and I missed the concert. I cannot put into words what Yusuf's music means to me but I continue to search. My uncle played Moonshadow on a juke box in a cafe on Miami Beach in 1971 on one of the family's many visits from NYC. I had listened to quite alot of music by then but nothing was as heartfelt and it changed my musical taste forever. I am in peace and hope I can see him in concert before my time is up. We are like the wind...

7. Greetings from Ireland Yusuf!! Is there any chance at all that you might in the forseeable future perform here in the Emerald Isle?? You have so many Irish fans that would dearly love to see you perform ... I am not normally a concert goer but I have always said down through the years that the only person I would really wish to see live is your good self!! So .. have registered on your site in the hope that if you ever do think of performing in Dublin ... I may be one of the first to know! Regards and keep singing! Geraldine

8. Hello from Louisiana Yusuf! I too was invited to your show in LA. My sister and I were thrilled to be seated at 1 of only 3 tables in front of the stage. We visited with Alun after the show and he even got you to autograph my copy of your children's book! The reason this was so special is that in 1976 my Mom wouldn't let me go see you in Dallas (thought 17 was too young) and then you never toured again. It was one of my biggest regrets! But no more!! When you walked on stage the years melted away. I was lost in the music and in the moment, it was over way too soon. It was an evening my sister and I will never forget! Thank you for your return to music and to us..your forever fans. May God bless you and your family. Oh, and please come to Jazz Fest!! Richina

9. Greetings Yusuf. When you played in Montreal back in the 70s I was unable to attend, and it is something that I always regretted. A dream came true when I was invited to attend your concert at the El Rey Theatre on May 11. With me came my wife as we flew from Calgary, Canada to L.A. We found ourselves in a dream world and loved every minute of what was an incredible night. It was more than beautiful words and music, but an experience in spiritual essence as your presence emanated God's love. May the peace of God be with you.
