Moonshadow In The Studio

The Moonshadow Musical is coming. In recent weeks Yusuf has been in the studio working on the Moonshadow concept album.

With 14 classic songs, the album will include such major hits as ‘Wild World’, ‘Father & Son’, ‘If You Want To Sing Out’ and many others.

The actor-singers featured on the recording are the same chosen to star in Yusuf’s upcoming ‘Guess I’ll Take My Time’ tour.

One special jewel of the sessions so far is a beautiful rearrangement of Yusuf’s first big hit, ‘Matthew & Son’, sung by Moonshadow actor Ryan O’Donnell.

You may be hearing this as a single before the end of the year…

2. Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat are both excellent nominees for musicals. "Wild World" rings so true. Yusuf's music has always spoken to me. He foretold of the materialism that has brought so much turmoil to the world. The Moonshadow Musical is a wonderful concept. I think we could all learn a lot from Yusuf's example. I too hope the musical is a huge hit and it will indeed be quite odd to hear others singing the music, but the message of the songs is the key, and no matter who sings the tunes they will strike my heart. The music of Yusuf Islam has always had a huge spiritual content. The world is in need of this now more than ever.

Not to mention that Yusufâ€™s upcoming â€œGuess Iâ€™ll Take My Time Tourâ€ takes its name from Tea for the Tillermanâ€™s â€œMiles from Nowhere.â€ The tour will promote the Moonshadow Musical, so it's conceivable that "Miles from Nowhere" is also in the musical. 4. Oh! â€“ I just remembered â€“ it was in the article â€œBack in the spotlightâ€ (http://www.masslive.com/living/republican/index.ssf?/base/living-2/1193988093188500.xml&coll=1). Hereâ€™s the quote: â€¦[ "Heaven/Where True Love Goes?"] was written for a musical I am working on called "Moon Shadow [sic]." It's a complex sort of story but it's about someone who is looking for a perfect world and he's going through all these trials in order to reach his ultimate goal. And of course at some point there's a relationship with his childhood love and that's the story in the background. So that song in a way is fulfillment of his love, as well as his finding his spiritual heart.

5. Hi, Rob Gordon. Your name reminds me of Ruth Gordon from "Harold and Maude." I think you're right about a musical from "Tea for the Tillerman," and actually, I think of Yusuf's Moonshadow Musical as being just that. I can very easily imagine any and all of the songs from "Tea for the Tillerman" being in Moonshadow. Yusuf's announcement (above) mentions â€œWild Worldâ€ and â€œFather & Sonâ€, and Cynthia, I wouldn't be at all surprised if "On the Road to Find Out," were included. I can even imagine "Hard Headed Woman" in the musical, since I seem to recall reading that thereâ€™s a romance between Stormy and his childhood schoolmate/sweetheart. Does anyone else remember that? A romance would be a great way to promote the Moonshadow Musical, since people love great romances. And I think it would be â€œIslamicâ€ as long as Stormy and his sweetheart have a kind of pure or â€œhigher loveâ€ that leads to marriage.

6. Rob Gordons comment is very interesting. I always thought Tea for the Tillerman would make a great animated film. "On the road to find out" conjures up very vivid pictures, particularly, "descending snow, and through the frost and thunder, I listen to the wind come howl, telling me I have to hurry, I listen to the Robins song saying not to worry." And there's that great arty/medieval(in the woods) type photo of C.St(Yusuf) on the back of the cd. In fact it's so vivid, I wonder if a video was ever done to go with the song?

7. We have a moonshadow show in Australia which is unbelievably popular, so no doubt your musical will do the same. However the real Cat/Yusuf would pack stadiums which begs the question, will Yusuf ever come to sing new and old in Australia. It is so fustrating to see tickets go on sale in the UK and not be able to go....... Maybe one day

8. just need to say Tea For the Tillerman is the best ever album, so far had it on vinyl, 8 track, tape and CD and welcome back having bought your new album still the best, only one question why not a musical from TF the TM as it just flows right through, always thought it would gve Andrew Lloyod Webber a run for his money good luck and all peace to all and everyone

10. I agree with both Margaret and Sunny about the originals being the greatest. However this is the best way of passing music on, and is how it was done before recording music was possible (in a more simple form, of course) Its great that Yusuf(C.St) is in at the birth of his own Musical "Moonshadow", to give it that extra scattering of magical moondust.

11. Salaam Sidi Yusuf, I pray that you and your family are all well and in the best states of health and spirit. It's truly wonderful to see you producing such amazing work and I very much look forward to watching the musical Godwilling. "Matthew & Son" is one of my absolute favourites and is loved by my 3 year old daughter... currently her favourite track that she's heard, I'm glad to say is "The Beloved". 14. I wish I could be like "Moonshadow" and be "in The Studio" and see and hear this album coming together. The cast must contain some really special people since Yusuf has entrusted them with many of the shiniest "jewels" in his treasure chest of songs. I agree with Margaret - it'll seem a bit odd hearing others sing these songs - I've always preferred Steve's originals to covers. But then I remember one of my favorite musicals, "Mamma Mia!" The songs were done so well that they became these iridescently beautiful echoes of the original Abba songs, balancing with perfect grace between â€œstirring old memoriesâ€ and â€œdancing in the daylightâ€. I hope this will be true of Moonshadow as well, except, of course, that Yusufâ€™s songs will be "dancing in the moonlight." All the best to Yusuf and the cast.
