Does Yusuf Feel He Can Help The World By Getting His Message Across Through Music?
Music can elevate our spirits when we are down. Right now the world is down and is in a serious rebuilding mode. This creates the conditions and climate for people to be more positive. The aftermath of war has left a bitter taste in many people’s mouths. They want change; that’s what the American election was all about.
Change is happening here in Britain too. The openness of British society and its growing multicultural attitude has allowed new cultures to be heard. World Music is no longer a distant mumble; high street record stores have racks dedicated to music from different lands and peoples. This is very healthy. Recently, I did Jools’ Later program. It was a real delight to see African bands playing alongside American pop groups. And me, a little ol’British Muslim amidst it all, twanging my guitar.
This bodes well, I think, for a richer and more peaceful tomorrow – God Willing.
